Trace's AI agent, inside Altium Designer and KiCad
Keep designing in the tool your team already uses. The Trace Plugin links Trace's agent to the project you have open, so it can read your schematic and board, make the changes you ask for, and check its own work.

Altium Designer
WindowsReads and edits the schematics and PCBs of the projects you have open. It works through Altium's own scripting engine: nothing to install inside Altium, and no developer program to join.
KiCad 10
Windows and macOSEdits your board live through KiCad's own API, each change a single undo step, and works on your schematic too. KiCad's API has to be turned on once; the plugin walks you through it.
How it works
Install and sign in
Download the plugin and sign in with your Trace account. It uses your Trace plan, the same as the Trace app.
Connect your design
Open your project in Altium Designer or KiCad, pick the tool in the plugin, and choose the project.
Ask, and watch it work
Describe what you need. The agent reads your design, makes the change in your tool and checks it, and you follow each step in the chat.
What the agent does in your tool
Reads the whole design
Schematic sheets, the board, parts and nets of the project you have open, so its answers are about your design.
Makes the edit
Places and wires parts, moves footprints, adds tracks, vias and zones, and changes values, in the design you have open.
Finds the right parts
Searches your own libraries and Trace's component catalog, and installs catalog parts into your project.
Checks its work
Runs your tool's design rule check and repairs what it can, before it tells you it's done.
Gets you to fab
Generates Gerbers, drill files and the other fabrication outputs from the board you have open.
Reads your references
Keep datasheets and notes in your personal Artifacts, and the agent reads them when it needs to.
The plugin or the Trace app?
Both come with your Trace account. Choose the one that fits how you work.
Trace Plugin
For engineers and teams who design in Altium Designer or KiCad and want to stay there. Your files, libraries and design rules stay in your tool.
Download the pluginTrace app
Trace's own AI-native design app, built on KiCad, with the agent at its center: schematic and PCB editors, a 46,000+ part library, cloud routing and one-click manufacturing.
Download the Trace appQuestions
Do I need the Trace app too?
No. The plugin works on its own, next to Altium Designer or KiCad. You can use both with the same account.
Which account and plan does it use?
Your Trace account. The plugin draws on the same plan and usage as the Trace app, including the free trial.
Does it change my files?
Only to make the changes you ask for, in the project you connected. Board edits in KiCad and PCB edits in Altium each land as one step you can undo in your tool.
Which tools and systems are supported?
Altium Designer on Windows, and KiCad 10 on Windows and macOS.
How does it stay up to date?
It updates itself: new versions download in the background and install the next time you restart it.
